Nigar Johar Khan is the epitome of perseverance and competence who has defied all odds to fulfill her dream of becoming the first and only female Lieutenant-General in the history of Pakistan Army.

Nigar Johar Khan is known to be the first and only woman in the history of Pakistan Army to have attained the rank of Lieutenant-General. In the year 2017, she was the third lady officer to have procured the position of Major-General. Lt. Gen. Nigar Johar is also designated as the first-ever female Surgeon General of the Pakistan Army. Recently, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has officially appointed her as Colonel Commandant of Army Medical Corps (AMC).

Nigar Johar belongs to a Pashtun family and has her roots connected with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She took birth in Panjpir Village located in District Swabi. She is the daughter of a former army colonel, Abdul Qadir, who was adjoined with Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). She lost both her parents in a car accident way back in 1990.

Lt. General Nigar Johar Khan got her early education from Presentation Convent Girls High School, Rawalpindi. In 1981, She took admission in the 5th MBBS course at Army Medical College (AMC) and completed her graduation in 1985. Later in the year 2010, She passed the examination for the membership of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. She has also earned a Diploma and a Masters’s degree through the Armed Forces Postgraduate Medical Institute in Advance Medical Administration and Public Health respectively.

Nigar Johar tied the knot to the late Johar Ali Khan who also performed services for the Pakistan Army. She got widowed in the year 2019 when her husband lost battle against Cancer. Both of them had an only son named Khushal Khan who has been serving in the Pakistan Army for the past four years.

Lt. General Nigar Johar Khan is awarded with both Tamgha-i-Imtiaz and Hilal-i-Imtiaz for excelling in her military career and the Fatima Jinnah Gold Medal from the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan for her commendable services in Army Medical Corps (AMC).
